Thy Kingdom Come is a global initiative that unites Christians from denominations across the world for 10 days of prayer. The focus of those prayers is for God to use us to evangelise to those who we live, work, study and volunteer alongside.
Concluding the 10 days of prayer will be The Big Prayer Picnic – an open-air ecumenical beacon prayer, worship and celebration, calling churches together from the whole of south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. We’ll join together for a Picnic and Prayer event in the grounds of the iconic Portchester Castle, on Pentecost Sunday, June 9th. The schedule is as follows:
- 1pm to 2:30pm: The big prayer picnic with fun for families and a variety of prayer tents to visit.
- 2:30pm to 4pm: The main prayer and worship event drawing us all together as one.
There will be parking for up to 1,000 cars in a nearby field bordering the castle. Catering for those that haven’t brought a picnic will be provided by St Mary’s Church tea room, and proceeds from their sales will go towards the church’s building fund.
Family Fun Afternoons are an opportunity families in our community to have fun and learn together. They are for families with children in primary school, but if your kids are a bit younger or older and you would like to come, you would be very welcome.
During these Family Fun Afternoons, we turn the entire Holy Rood site into an activity centre. After a short welcome there are zones running across the whole site. The zone activities change each afternoon but usually include a craft zones, a beauty zone, a baby zone for younger children, a sports zone, a games zone, a build zone and more – so there should be something for everyone’s taste! There is also be a cafe area if you need a cup of tea or squash. Finally, we finish with an all-together time from 3-3:30pm where families can learn and have fun together.
Do come along with your kids. Doors open at 1:45pm and entry is £3 per family. You don’t have too have any other involvement with Crofton Parish to come – this event is for the whole community!
