Manifesto for a New World

2021, like 2020, will not be a normal year. In the midst of the pruning/pause/fallow period we are in, we have the opportunity to reflect on where we are at and what kind of new world we might want to shape post-Covid? Answering this question begins by asking another one “What kind of world does God want for us?”

The Sermon on the Mount is Jesus’ defining teaching on what it means to be the people he is shaping for a new world, it can be found in Matthew chapters 5 to 7. It’s a vision – a manifesto, if you like – for a new world, a better world. We are therefore going to be looking what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount.

To do it well, though, take time, so we are going to look at it in four sections over the year:

  1. New People (Matt 5.1-16)
  2. New Rules (Matt 5.17-48)
  3. New Habits (Matt 6.1-7.12)
  4. Two Ways to Live (Matt 7.13-29)
