On the Thursday the events of Holy Week rapidly draw to their conclusion. Jesus prepares His disciples and Himself for His death as they share the Passover Meal together. Here Jesus showed how He was a servant king as He washed His disciples’ feet. During the meal He instigated what we now call Holy Communion.
Matthew tells us:
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins”. (Matthew 26 v 26-28 NIV UK)
After the meals Jesus and all the disciples except Judas went to Gethsemane where Jesus prayed in agony, knowing what lay ahead for Him.
These are the events that are particularly remembered at this Holy Communion service.
All are welcome.
