Following the sad announcement of the death of Prince Philip on Friday, our churches are opening for anyone who wants to come and pray quietly or perhaps light a candle in his memory.
We are sorry to say that, due to the ongoing Covid restrictions, many of the ways in which we might mark such an occasion won’t be possible. However, our churches will be open during the week should you wish to pray or sit quietly
- Holy Rood will be open from 11am-3pm from Monday to Friday, from 7-8pm on Tuesday and from 10am-12noon on Saturday.
- St Edmund’s will be open from 3-4pm on Thursday (please note that candle lighting isn’t permitted at St Edmund’s).
Buckingham Palace have asked that physical Books of Condolence not be used in churches or other public places. Instead, you can contribute to an online Book of Condolence. The Church of England has made one available here at churchofengland.org or you can send a message of condolence through the Royal Family’s website royal.uk.
Similarly, to avoid crowds gathering, the Palace have asked that flowers not be laid in memory of the Duke of Edinburgh. In place of floral tributes, the Royal Family have suggested you might like to make a donation to one of the Duke’s charities, details of which can be found on the Royal Family’s website at the address above.
